    04/10/07 - CONCORD - The House voted 253-37 last week to pass a renewable energy bill to encourage construction of more wood-fired power plants like the new 50-megawatt facility at Schiller Station in Portsmouth and several projects recently announced in the North Country. One megawatt can light and heat roughly 1,000 homes.

    Gas-fired facilities up for sale

    04/10/07 - CONCORD - The state's two natural gas-fired power plants built in the last five years have recently been for sale, according to Power Finance and Risk Magazine. It reported Nov. 6 that the 720-megawatt Granite Ridge facility in Londonderry was on the block, and issued similar news March 9 about the 525-megawatt Newington Energy plant owned by Consolidated Edison Development on the Seacoast.

    04/10/07 - M. (for Mary) Marguerite Mathews arrived in Portsmouth in 1970 with hopes of being part of a new theater company. It didn't happen. At least not then. Today, she and her artistic partner, Greg Gathers, are at the helm of Pontine Movement Theatre, one of the community's oldest theater companies, which hits 30 next year. And, as far as Mathews is concerned, there will be few more major milestone in the company's future.
